The 37th District Buyer’s Coalition, in partnership with Yosemite Foods, will distribute 6,397 pounds of pork on Friday from purchases made during the Santa Barbara County Fair.

Local 4-H and FFA members will assist with delivering the donated pork to nonprofit organizations including Meals That Connect, New Life Pantry, Good Samaritan Shelter, 5 Cities Homeless Coalition and Welcome Home Military Heroes.

The distribution effort will begin at 9 a.m. at the J and G Lau/Cal Poly Meat Processing Department.

Organizers said the donation represents an expansion of the coalition’s efforts to provide locally sourced, nutrient-rich food to community organizations. This year’s donation is expected to be three times larger than previous efforts.
