A Collaboration to End Homelessness

The 5Cities Homeless Coalition is continually working with local service providers, the faith community, service groups, and community leaders to assess current services and opportunities for collaboration to provide for immediate needs (not currently being met) that lead toward self-sufficiency. Below is an updated compilation of resources available in southern San Luis Obispo County.

Department of Social Services & The Family Care Network

Housing Support Program (HSP)

  • Provides case management to assist in obtaining long term stable housing, develop budget, and work on sustainability.
  • Eligibility: Currently homeless, SLO County residency for minimum of 12 months, receiving cash aid for children in the home.

El Camino Homeless Organization (ECHO)

ECHO operates three facilities in North County that each provide meals and a safe and secure overnight shelter to meet the immediate needs of families and individuals in our community who are facing hunger and homelessness.  Residents are provided individual case management services to assist them in securing a job and finding permanent and sustainable housing.  While staying at ECHO, residents are taught life skills for employment, financial literacy, health care management and parenting.

Independent Living Resource Center (ILRC)

The Independent Living Resource Center (ILRC) is a private non-profit organization providing disability advocacy and independence increasing or maintaining services to Ventura, Santa Barbara, and San Luis Obispo Counties. We provide this support to individuals with all disabilities, all ages, and all income levels. Following the Independent Living Philosophy, our services are team-based; our consumers must be active participants in achieving their goals.

Peoples’ Self-Help Housing

PSHH is the longest-serving nonprofit affordable housing organization on the Central Coast. With a mission of building homes and providing services to strengthen communities and change lives, PSHH serves low-income households, families, farmworkers, seniors, and veterans. It also provides welcoming environments for those living with disabilities, youth transitioning out of foster care, and the formerly homeless.
