We celebrated 15 years in 2024 and have gotten a lot done, but there is still so much to do! Homelessness is a rapidly growing concern that is best met with out-of-the-box thinking. This type of thinking began in 2009 with Patti Diefenderfer & Betsy Ehrler who founded 5Cities Homeless Coalition in 2009. Since then, 5CHC has grown our services from an initial two-person outreach team to a fully staffed case management office in 2019. In the spirit of “out-of-the-box thinking”, 5CHC opened a pioneering project, Cabins for Change in 2022. This non congregate shelter was the first of its kind in San Luis Obispo County offering 20 individual cabins with on-site wrap-around services focused on moving people off the streets and into permanent housing. With a growing wait list of over 300, 5CHC opened the second shelter, Balay Ko on Barca, providing 30 additional beds and services identical to Cabins for Change.

With all of these resources available to us, we were able to provide support to nearly 1,500 individuals in this anniversary year, but the need is growing. To continue providing vital support AND continue our growth to fill the need, we need your help! Our goal is to raise $150,000 to kick off 2025!
